University of Ghent

The research group Building Physics, Construction and Services of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Ghent focuses on the performance assessment of building and building component design.

The performance analysis is based on numerical simulations and experimental evaluation, with the aim to contribute to a better knowledge of low-energy and sustainable building design. This is done in both more fundamental research projects, where the focus is the study of heat and mass transfer processes in buildings, and in more applied projects in the field of low-energy dwellings, energy-efficient ventilation and passive-cooling techniques.

A more recent field of interest is the study of the energy conservation potential of pragmatic insulation technologies in the existing housing stock, on which an industrial research project has been started.
